Recap:

A stellar and patient performance led to a come-from-behind victory for Luis Santoni in Event 3. Santoni survived a wild three-handed H.O.R.S.E showdown to hold off Winnipeg’s Stephen Reed and Michael Moed to seal the deal.

Moed appeared to have things well in hand but Moed ran into a difficult string of hands doubling up Reed twice, lost another big hand to him and then Santoni got in the action and got two more hands from Moed which left him stunned and short-stacked. Moed finally fell to Reed ending his night leaving the Puerto Rico native and the Canadian to shoot it out.

Santoni managed to chip away to take a 5:1 lead but Reed would not go away finding ways to hang on and keep his hopes alive. But it was not meant to be as Santoni finally put Reid in with a weak hand and earned the win. Santoni, the 12th place finisher in the 1994 World Series of Poker, won his ninth career title and added on to his over $1,000,000 in lifetime earnings.

After the win, Santoni said it was “about time” he finally put Reed away. “I was up and down the whole tournament and Reed is a very steady player that I admire. But I felt very good about my game and it was a pleasure to be first.” When asked how he was going to celebrate the win, he simply said “I’m going home”.

Congratulations to our Event 3 winner, Luis Santoni!
