The career of Darryll Fish has risen from the kid living in Coral Gables who decided to take up playing poker behind the screen to online poker superstar to one of the toughest outs in poker on the live scene.  Fish’s career has been one of non-stop dedication and a desire to succeed on and off the felt.

Fish actually got away from the felt before this series and talked about what it’s like to be a true professional poker player and trying to keep himself going when he’s not staring at cards.

“I took a week off and it was longest break I’ve had in several years.  The lifestyle is much more glamourized than what it is in reality.  Sure, we have a lot of free time and get to enjoy our freedom. Yes, we get to do a lot of leisurely things.  But I typically play between 40-60 hours of cash games mostly in the casinos here in Florida and then whatever tournaments are going on at the time.  Other than that I spend a lot of time exercising, meditating, on the beach, doing yoga and trying to do whatever i can do to stay fresh and balanced.”

Though Fish has traveled the world chasing poker glory, he has no problem staying at home; especially getting down and dirty here at Seminole Hard Rock-Hollywood.

“The Florida poker climate is very good.  I can’t think of any other state that is better for tournaments with the Hard Rock being the biggest and most prominent.  There’s a series here every couple of months and they’re always a big hit – lots of big field events, great value on the small buy-ins and the main events are always great.  It’s kinda hard to travel to tournaments when there’s always something happening here.”

When this series concludes Darryll made some atypical plans but there’s a method behind the madness as he tries to find the right mix in front of and away from the game.

“I’m playing rest of this series and then going to Costa Rica at the end of February for a music/yoga/art/spiritual type of festival with some friends.  I’m focusing more on life balance more now than playing poker all the time because I think it leads to better results in poker to do that.  We have another major series here in April and then beyond that I don’t intend to plan my life out too far out in the future until the World Series.”

Fish has his sights set high as he looks to take down the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open title.  “I’m very hungry for a live title or just some sort of affirmation that years of hard work does pay off.  Keep fighting the good fight!”
