There were 1,110 entries in the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship, enough to smash the $3 million guarantee and create a massive prizepool worth $5,383,500.

On Monday night they got down to the seven-handed final table, with all seven players guaranteed at least $154,185 each. They then played down to a winner on Tuesday on a live-stream broadcast by Poker Night in America.

In a final table that lasted more than nine hours, Sergio Aido was the last player standing to win the title, the iconic Guitar Tower-shaped trophy, and $900,100.

“As you can expect with 90-minute levels,” said Aido, “there was plenty of play. I’m very happy with how I played.”

Justin Liberto began the day as chipleader with a whopping 136 big blinds, but the long final table had taken a toll on his chip stack, and with four players left, he got it all in with AdQs against Aido’s 9s9h. Liberto failed to improve, and he was out in fourth place, earning $305,955. (Click here for more details.)

Chris Brewer started the final table second in chips with 97 big blinds, and made it all the way to the final three. Brewer got it all in preflop with Ah10c, but never caught up to Jim Collopy’s 9h9d. Brewer finished third to earn $412,375. (Click here for more details.)

Collopy began heads-up play with the lead over Aido, but Aido cracked Collopy’s queens on a double-paired board to double up to a nearly 3-to-1 chip lead. (Click here for more details.)

Collopy was never able to recover from that deficit, but he went out on his own terms on a board of Kc6c5h4c10h. Collopy held the Ac5d, but with action on every street, a lowly pair of fives wasn’t likely to be the best hand.

Aido had turned a flush with Qc10c, but checked the river to Collopy, who tanked for a while before bluffing all in. Aido snap-called with his flush to win the trophy, the title, and the $900,100 first prize. (Click here for more details on the final hand.)

Aido is originally from Spain, and you know he must have an impressive poker resume when this $900,100 prize is only his third largest. He finished fourth last week in Event 30, the $50,000 Super High Roller, and this victory will put Aido over $14 million in career earnings.

Aido has played in some of our big events here at Seminole Hard Rock over the past two years, and we might be seeing more of him in the future.

“Now I’m living in Mexico,” said Aido. “It’s closer to Miami, and I think this stop will be in my schedule in the following months. So I will be back for sure.”
