$15,000 WPT Tournament of Champions
End of Level 10: 800/1,600 with a 200 ante
Players Remaining: 30 of 66
After 10 levels of play, Day 1 of the $15,000 WPT Tournament of Champions is in the books and Michael Mizrachi leads the 30 players who survived the day.
Mizrachi, who finished third in this event last year, finished the day with 285,600 and has a slight lead on James Romero, who finished with 276,000. The only other player with over 200,000 is Griffin Paul, who won the 2015 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.
Tyler Patterson (199,300) and Erik Seidel (179,200) round out the top five chip counts. Last year’s champion, Farid Yachou also waded his way through the first day, but is coming back on Saturday as one of the shorter stacks with 35,800.
Luck wasn’t on everybody’s side though with plenty of top pros hitting the rail before the day’s end. Mohsin Charania, Jake Cody, Shawn Cunix, Scott Clements, Mike Sexton, Keven Stammen, Kevin Eyster, Ema Zajmovic and Dominik Nitsche were just a few of the players who were unable to put chips in a bag at the end of the day.
There were 66 WPT Champions Club Members who came to the Hard Rock and the top 9 spots will finish in the money. The eventual winner will take home $381,500 and an Audi S5.
Day 2 will get underway at noon on Saturday and they will play down to the final six players, who will play down to a winner at the televised final table on Sunday.
